Foreign Language Immersion Day

Turn one day per week into a mini immersion experience using AI conversation partners, labeled household items, and cooking a meal from the target culture.

Scenario

You want your kids to learn Spanish but you only speak it at a tourist level. Duolingo is fine but doesn't create real conversational practice.

Tools

  • Conversation partner prompt — 'You are a friendly Spanish tutor. Speak to my 9-year-old in simple Spanish. After each exchange, gently correct any errors and teach one new word. Keep the conversation about [today's theme].'
  • Label maker — Print labels for 20 household items in the target language. Change them every two weeks.
  • Recipe prompt — 'Give me a simple recipe from [country] that a 9-year-old can help cook. Include the ingredient list in both English and Spanish.'

Outcome

By month 3, the child can hold a 5-minute basic conversation. They associate the language with fun (cooking, games) rather than drills.
